Todaylily

These "Scarlet Ribbons" Daylilies are lined up waiting for the doors to open for the big daylily show Saturday, July 9, at the Paoli Presbyterian Church, 225 S. Valley Rd., Paoli, PA. The public is welcome to see the judged entries between 1 and 4 pm. IF you would like to enter, you can join DVDS ($10) and / or AHS ($18 to be eligible for awards in the "On-Scape" division) on the day of the show, but arrive before 9 am to get the extra paperwork processed. DVDS members can drop off entries between 8 am and 10 am. The club provides containers for your entries. I won the "off-scape" division last year, my SECOND year entering, with "Indian Giver", a $10 daylily, and the "On-Scape" division was won by "Pardon Me", a $5 daylily. The object is like a dog show, to be the best example of the "breed standards". AND the final incentive: just entering gets you a one year extension of your DVDS membership!!!! Yesterday Lois-Anne Burek, at least 5 DVDS members and I were among the 500+ attendees at Darryl Apps' Daylily Dazzle, but we didn't see ANY GSDG members! There are some REAL BARGAINS at the nursery this year-see the photo attached of the Ferengi Gold I got. There are 14 scapes on this 3-gallon plant for $22.00 -that's $1.67 per scape INCLUDING tax!!! Go on thursday July 7 or Friday July 15 before 10am, and you will get a personally guided tour of the whole nursery including the seedling beds! Thursday July 21 is his closeout sale (bare root seedlings not selected for registration). In the row by the drive to the overflow parking lot is the next "Appster" intro "Mean Mister Mustard"; let me know when it hits the nurseries and I will be in line! Pack up your car with your liliholic neighbors and a picnic lunch, but leave plenty of space for the pots you'll be bringing home!
