Early Daylilies Seen on Hosta Tour

Here are two spectacular daylilies I saw today on the Hosta Society National Tour near Philadelphia. They are 'Wings of Chance' and (I believe) 'Wild Horses'. Wings of Chance was doubling- I don't know how unusual that is, but it is not registered as a double. The other was reported to have been blooming for at least a couple of weeks, but the name they gave me is of a lavender cream petaled cultivar, and this had a definite yellow tint, so I THINK this is Wild Horses. Any different opinions?

Stamiles Speaking at GSDG Sunday

Pat and Grace Stamile are BOTH speaking at the Garden State Daylily Growers meeting Sunday, June 11, 2006 at Deep Cut State Park south of Middletown, New Jersey. Directions are on the GSDG website www.gsdaylily.org Check out their cultivars at www.floydcove.com (the Stamile website), and www.flynndaylilygardens.com/the_candy_shoppe.htm where Ida Flynn has assembled most of the Candy series in ONE table; she also has done it for several other hybridizers; check it out!

Confession- the two daylilies above are NOT Stamiles, they are Mandalay Bay Music (Salter 2001) and Geneva Firetruck (Hansen 2001) which bloomed for me yesterday. Both are "Florida" bloom, earlier than expected because they just arrived from Florida this spring. Both are classified "EM" or early midseason.

Identify the Mystery Daylily!

This is labled "Echos in the Mist" but Salter's 2000 cultivar is lavender, not mustard yellow. This looks like El Desperado, but that's a Late bloomer, and this is blooming June 5th. Anybody have something like it blooming now? I THINK I heard a story that Salter spelled "Echoes" wrong intentionally because there was Already an "Echoes in the Mist" in the trade, but I can't find info on it. Anybody have info?

First Daylily Blooms 2006

Earlybird Orangeade (Skinner)

First 2006 Bloom Award for Newtown Square PA goes to Earlybird Orangeade hybridized by Megan Skinner of Allentown, PA. This is the fourth bloom on this scape.

Second bloomer, new today, is supposed to be Echoes in the Mist (Salter, 2000) but it doesn't match the registration description or Tinkers Photos.

REMEMBER! June 11, Garden State Daylily Growers Club meeting- speakers are the STAMILE S! Directions at www.gsdaylily.org (click Directions on the Schedule page). Meeting starts at 1:30 pm Sunday at Deep Cut State Park (north from Exit 114, GSParkway).
