Catch-up: First Blooms 6/12/07

Sica Hollow will look better than this first bloom.
Dragon's orb is a small one but that eye shouts "I'm here!" from 50 feet away.

This is Mikado, a Stout hybrid from 1929! Looks better to me than lots of the current registrations.
Merlot Rouge has a great combination of yellow throat and picotee white edge to make it an outstanding double in my humble opinion.

And here's Happy Hooligan, a great double that reblooms for me. It's one of the few stippled doubles, and I think it's really underappreciated.

Also blooming first day but with defects (I'll publish a good bloom later) are Double Blueberry Pie, Betty Warren Woods, Small Gesture, and Malachite Prism. YES- Malachite Prism made it through the winter in Philadelphia!

First Daylilies of 2007 Blooming NOW

My name is Terry and I am a hemehostaholic- I can't pass a nursery without buying more than one. Current count is about 600 hemerocallis (daylilies) and 200 hostas (no more shady spots available, or I'd have more). The first 3 daylilies to bloom in 2007 are displayed above: Earlybird Orangeade and Earlybird Sunshine, both hybridized by Ron & Megam Skinner of Allentown, PA and available at www.manatawneycreekfarm.com , plus an unknown- if you recognize it, please respond to this post with a comment. I'd love to know what it is. the color is a true mustard with plum (?) eye, blooms 4.5 inches, first scapes 18-20 inches.
